Coleman Porcelain
A fine, smooth white high-quality porcelain. Very compatible with multiple glazes. This clay is very translucent when thin. Probably the best domestically produced porcelain you will ever find.
Sleeper Porcelain
A porcelain that is stiffer to work with than Coleman. It has a very fine grog mixed in. We use Sleeper as the basis for our studio slips.
B-Mix
A porcelaneous, high plasticity cream-white stoneware, easier than porcelain to work with. Well-suited for both hand-building and throwing. Easy to throw and form. Smooth porcelain texture. Fires gray/white in reduction and lighter in oxidation.
B-Mix with Grog
Same as B-Mix above but with grog added. Better for sculpture and large projects.
Black Mountain
A brown/black clay that is well-suited for both hand-building and throwing. High manganese and iron content, medium in texture. Great for the wheel.
Black Mountain Sculpture
A brown/black clay with added grog and feldspar – great for hand-building or sculpture.
Red Pete
A red groggy clay that shows lots of variation in reduction firings. Well-suited for both hand-building and throwing.
Pete
Similar to Red Pete, but more of a stoneware color. Well-suited for both hand-building and throwing.
Soldate
A truly all-around body with a medium toasty color. Excellent throwing and hand-building body.
Rod’s Bod
A stoneware with lots of color variant. High iron speckling when fired to maturity. Gray in the raw form with a medium sand texture. A popular body for general purpose use. Large and thick-walled pieces are prone to cracking. In light to medium reduction, Rod’s Bod fires to a warm brown with iron specks which generally bleed into glazes forming brown specks.
Meath
A white stoneware with grey. Excellent throwing and hand-building body.
412 Sculpture
A high-grog beige to tan clay great for sculpture. A fine grog is used, giving this clay a smooth enough texture for wheel thrown work. A great all-purpose clay, it fires to a soft buff color in oxidation, and a toasty tan in reduction. Considered by many studio potters to be the best raku clay body available.
Recycled Clay
Our in-house, recycled clay. It has slight variability depending on what clays are most popular at a given time and can sometimes be more dry or wet. It’s a favorite clay for many people.
